LIV Golf’s New Orleans Debut Set to Be Canceled After Funding Questions

LIV Golf’s debut event in New Orleans this summer is set to be canceled, as the league’s future continues to remain in doubt.

LIV Golf’s debut event in New Orleans this summer is set to be canceled, according to Front Office Sports sources and multiple local reports that surfaced late Monday afternoon.

Last August, league and state officials announced a deal to play LIV Golf Louisiana at the South Course at New Orleans City Park Bayou Oaks June 25–28. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry lured LIV by agreeing to pay a $5 million hosting fee and spend a further $2.2 million on renovations to the city-owned golf course.

But the golf tournament will not be played as planned in June, FOS has confirmed.

LIV, Landry’s office, and the state agency Louisiana Economic Development (LED) have instead been exploring the potential for a new date in September or October, sources with knowledge of LIV’s operation tell FOS

The shift would be in part to avoid the New Orleans summer heat and general sports fan competition with the FIFA World Cup, as well as ensure the course is in top condition, the sources say. New Orleans is not hosting any World Cup matches; the final matches of the group stage will be happening throughout the country as the LIV Louisiana tournament was set to begin.

New Orleans-based TV station WDSU News Channel 6 was first to report the news Monday.

LIV, Landry, and LED will issue a joint statement officially announcing the news Tuesday, sources say.

The development comes just 12 days after questions emerged about LIV’s future, with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia reportedly no longer funding the league after its 2026 season.

Shortly after that news, Louisiana officials sought clarity from LIV about the upcoming event in New Orleans.

Now, the state of Louisiana is postponing the tournament “until LIV can restructure financially and find additional sources of funding,” per the WDSU report. LIV notified state officials on Friday that they want to “pivot” from the June dates and “potentially reschedule a smaller, exposition-style tournament this fall,” according to the Nola.com report.

LIV’s initial announcement claimed the event was expected to deliver an estimated impact of $40 million to the local economy, including supporting over 1,150 jobs. Grounds tickets for the tournament, which are still available online, are priced between $22 and $31.

LIV CEO Scott O’Neil earlier this month said the league’s 2026 season was continuing “full throttle.” However, he did admit that LIV is likely on the hunt for new investors.

LIV Golf Louisiana was set to be the 10th of 14 events on the league’s 2026 schedule. It would have been the second U.S. event of the year. Next week, LIV is set to make its 2026 U.S. debut at LIV Golf Virginia at Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C., on May 7–10.

Cancelling the New Orleans event would mean LIV would have a 47-day break between its tournament in Spain on June 4–7 and the U.K. on July 23–26.

State, city, and LIV spokespeople did not immediately respond to FOS requests for comment.
