LIV Golf: ‘Full Throttle’ Through 2026 Despite Shutdown Rumors

LIV Golf is pressing ahead with the remainder of its 2026 season, after the league was rocked by reports of its imminent demise.

LIV CEO Scott O’Neil sent a 441-word email to staff Wednesday afternoon, obtained by Front Office Sports, assuring league officials had no plans of ceasing operations.

“I want to be crystal clear: Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle,” O’Neil wrote. “While the media landscape is often filled with speculation, our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass. We are heading into the heart of our 2026 schedule with the full energy of an organization that is bigger, louder, and more influential than ever before.

“The life of a startup movement is often defined by these moments of pressure,” O’Neil’s email continued. “We signed up for this because we believe in disrupting the status quo. We have faced headwinds since the jump, and we’ve answered every time with resilience and grace. Now, we answer by doing what we do best: putting on the most compelling show in sports.”

By Wednesday evening, multiple reports indicated that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia intends to continue funding LIV through the remainder of the 2026 season.

This week, LIV is playing its sixth event of the year in Mexico City, running Thursday to Sunday. There are eight more tournaments on the 14-event schedule, including five in the U.S. this summer.

Earlier Wednesday, the Financial Times reported that the PIF is “on the verge of cutting its support for LIV,” a sentiment that was reported by multiple other outlets as well.

The PIF’s total spend on LIV’s operations had been projected to surpass $6 billion by the end of this year.

LIV’s full financial picture is not public, but the league has lost money each year since it launched in 2022. A LIV official told FOS that the league, through five events this season, is tracking $100 million ahead in revenue year-over-year.

O’Neil, in his email to staff Wednesday, encouraged employees to “lean into this moment. The noise you hear is simply the sound of a movement that is working. Embrace it. We are pioneers, and while the road isn’t always smooth, the destination is worth every mile. Let’s go out and show the world why LIV Golf is the future of the game. It matters. You mattered. Now, let’s go win.”

LIV’s Mexico City tournament begins at 2:15 p.m. ET on Thursday.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
