Good Good Golf CEO Steps Down Amid Callaway Driver Ad Fallout

Employees were informed on Wednesday of the move. Good Good president Joe Flannery is stepping down as well.

Good Good Golf CEO Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery are stepping down. It’s the latest domino in the continued fallout from the content creator group’s controversial co-branded driver ad with Callaway.

Employees were informed on Wednesday of Kendrick and Flannery’s resignations. G4 Investment Partners co-founder and managing partner Nahid Giga, an early investor in Good Good and current board member, is taking over as interim CEO.

Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark, who shoved fellow Good Good member Alexis Miestowski to the ground in the ill-fated video, is remaining with the company and will continue creating content.

“Despite the recent controversy, the company is seeing online retail growth, continued support from investors, and sees an opportunity to re-engage former retail partners in the future,” a Good Good spokesperson told Front Office Sports on Wednesday night.

Kendrick’s exit comes after Good Good had already fired VP of brand and marketing Jeffrey Lefkovits and one other employee in the wake of the ad fallout. Meanwhile, Callaway director of content and production Alex Upegui is departing the golf equipment manufacturer, as Front Office Sports previously reported. 

Callaway ended its partnership with Good Good last week. The YouTube golf group also dropped out of sponsoring the Good Good Championship PGA Tour event scheduled for November in Texas. (The tournament is still happening as the Austin Championship.) Good Good merchandise has been pulled from major retailers, including Golf Galaxy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, PGA Tour Superstore, and Target. (These companies have not responded to repeated requests for comment from FOS about their short-term plans for the pulled inventory or their long-term plans for their respective relationships with Good Good.)

Last week, Kendrick told FOS he did not see the ad before it was published and that Good Good’s investors had “been extremely supportive” since the ad was pulled. “They’ve been in the war room with us through this process every day,” Kendrick said. 

Good Good raised a $45 million funding round last year led by Creator Sports Capital, including participation from Manhattan West Private Equity, Sunflower Bank, and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. (FOS has been unable to reach any investment partner for comment.)

Kendrick spoke with FOS on Aug. 28 after taking to X/Twitter early Friday morning to call out Callaway for its handling of the situation. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his exit Wednesday night.

The full internal announcement on Kendrick’s exit from Good Good CFO/ and COO Alex Puchala, which was first reported by Business Insider, is below:

“Good Good Team—I wanted you to hear this news directly from me. Effective today, Matt has decided to step down as CEO of Good Good and Joe has chosen to part ways as well. This is a difficult day for the entire Good Good family. Matt helped build something extraordinary that exceeded all expectations and continues to bring countless new fans to the sport. What began as a small group of friends playing golf is now a growing global community.

“To ensure stability through this transition, Nahid Giga, Good Good co-founder and one of our first investors, will step in as interim CEO, effective immediately. Garrett and the creator team will keep doing what they do best, making great content and engaging our fans who are eager to see and hear from us. 

“I will remain COO and CFO, and will continue to oversee day-to-day operations.We’re encouraged by the continued support of the Good Good community, and we remain focused on moving forward and building the next chapter of the company. My door is always open if you have any questions, or simply need to talk. Onward, Alex.”
