Dodgers Set Post-Championship Fanatics Sales Record

  • Dodgers’ immediate post-title sales surpassed Cubs, Lakers and Eagles.
  • Mookie Betts has the top-selling Dodgers jersey since World Series Game 6.

The Los Angeles Dodgers nabbed another accolade just hours after winning their sixth World Series title.

The team set a record for the first eight hours of championship merchandise sales for online retailer Fanatics, chairman Michael Rubin announced on Twitter. The Chicago Cubs — who won their first championship in over 100 years in 2016 — the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Philadelphia Eagles were previously the top three performers in the first eight hours after winning a title.

The news is not particularly surprising, as some Dodgers players are among the most popular in baseball, though their title drought was far shorter than that of the Cubs.

Mookie Betts, who signed a 12-year, $365 million extension in July, had the top-selling jersey in the league for the 2020 regular season — he unseated Aaron Judge, who was the top seller for three seasons prior. Fellow Dodgers Cody Bellinger and Clayton Kershaw clocked in at No. 5 and 9 overall for the regular season, respectively.

The top three best-selling Dodgers player jerseys since Game 6 are Betts, World Series MVP Corey Seager, and Kershaw, Fanatics said. Since the championship, the top five markets buying Dodgers gear are L.A., San Francisco, Sacramento, Las Vegas and New York City.
