Jameis Winston Eyes NFL Return, but Keeps Door Open for Potential TV Gig

The 10-year NFL quarterback is currently a free agent. But he’s also serving as a Fox Sports Digital correspondent in New Orleans during Super Bowl week.

Jameis Winston was one of the most popular players in the NFL this year, even if the Browns finished tied for the worst record in football. The No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft went viral numerous times throughout the year for his motivational speeches and charismatic postgame interviews.

This led to Winston, who also played four seasons with the Saints, getting tapped by Fox Sports Digital to serve as a correspondent ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Winston is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins March 12, and because of this recent foray into the media, it’s fair to question whether the 10-year NFL veteran would explore a full-time move into broadcasting. In a sit-down interview with Front Office Sports on Friday, Winston said he remains focused on playing football—though he didn’t rule out a move to the media.

“I’m just taking every day one day at a time and I’m just grateful for the opportunity [from Fox],” Winston said. “I don’t have a contingency plan right now. If this is the opportunity that comes up or I’m awarded this opportunity, you better believe I’m going to put all the preparation that’s required for me to be the best at this. But right now my focal point is being the best at quarterback right now.”

The 31-year-old, who threw 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season, added that he remains confident he’s one of the “best 32 quarterbacks in the world” and wants an opportunity to prove himself once again to the league.

“Now I’m about instilling trust into these owners, into these front office executives that I can do it, that they can trust me, that I can lead their team to victory, and ultimately have a day like this where I’m not talking to you guys, that I’m not interviewing people but I’m actually playing in the Super Bowl,” Winston said.
