The Power of Purpose

Purpose is the compass the guides your life.

People often confuse passion and purpose. Passion is the excitement, love, and energy we supply to something or someone. Purpose is the compass the guides your life. Purpose gives meaning and definition to your existence.

Inherent within your purpose, lies passion. When you are faced with challenging tasks, passion fuels your desire to push forward and win with excellence. It is the fire that ignites your heart. But if purpose is unknown or misunderstood, individuals become wandering souls who miss opportunities to change the world, with their time, talent, and resources. For this reason, I want to share 3 reasons why purpose is important in your career pursuits.

1. Purpose Provides Direction –

Dictionary.com defines purpose as the reason for which something is done or created or for which it exists. One of the greatest revelations for mankind, is discovering why he or she exists. An defined purpose should serve as a compass for decision-making.

For example, when faced with a tough career decision, you can always revert back to your purpose for assistance. As you discover who you are and why you exist, your attitude, decision-making ability, and perspective on life are all impacted by the lens of purpose.

2. Purpose Stands Bold With Passion –

As I mentioned above, passion is the “fire that ignites your heart.” Passion brings joy to what others view as mundane. Passion provides hope to those who see no end. Passion fills a room with excitement that was otherwise empty. In an industry such as sport that often requires long hours, extended time away from family, and other personal sacrifices — passion makes normal what most view as crazy.

Passion brings to life what others may have said is impossible to achieve. Stand bold! Stand proud! You were created to win and win big.

“There is no passion to be found playing small — in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” — Nelson Mandela

3. Purpose Leaves Footprints of Success –

One of Tony Robbin’s most recognizable quotes is that “success leaves clues”. Everyone has the ability to be successful in something, but sustained success is guided by purpose, filled with passion, and leaves a record of success along the way. Intentionality is derived from a focused approach to the task at hand. With purpose as the guiding point success becomes a matter of intent.

Each accomplishment along the pursuit of purpose leaves a footprint of success for others to follow along their journey. Living a purposefully life isn’t solely for your gratification, but to leave an indelible imprint on the lives of others, too.

As a sport professional you will cross paths with hundreds of people throughout your career. Don’t let an opportunity to make a life-changing impact pass you by. Purpose provides direction, stands bold with passion, and leave footprints of success along the way. Live in the why and win big with excellence!
