Mattress Mack Bets $1.5M on TCU to Win National Championship

  • At +370 odds, the bet would yield $5.55M in winnings if successful.
  • TCU is currently a 12.5-point underdog to Georgia.

Mattress Mack is at it again — and this time, he’s putting his faith and money behind a Texas-sized underdog.

The furniture magnate and famed sports bettor — whose real name is Jim McIngvale — has placed a $1.5 million bet on TCU to win Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game, per the Action Network’s Darren Rovell.

McIngvale placed the wager with DraftKings Sportsbook, where he received +370 odds — meaning a victory for the Horned Frogs over Georgia would yield $5.55 million in winnings.

Mattress Mack has become famous for using large, high-profile sports bets to offset promotions he runs in his Houston-area Gallery Furniture stores. Currently, the company is running an offer that will see customers receive double their money back on qualifying $3,000+ purchases if TCU wins.

McIngvale’s last betting stunt was a series of futures totaling $10 million on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. At blended +750 odds, he netted $75 million when the ‘Stros took home the title — the largest recorded payout in legal sports betting history.

Per Action Network data, 86% of the bets and 93% of the money are on the Horned Frogs to cover the underdog spread, which currently stands at 12.5 at most sportsbooks.

Last season, Mack unsuccessfully bet $6.2 million total on Alabama to win the National Championship over Georgia at +115 and +120 odds. He’ll hope for a better result this time around.
