Bryson DeChambeau Misses Second Major Cut Amid LIV Turmoil

It marks the second consecutive major championship that DeChambeau won’t be playing on the weekend after also missing the cut at the Masters.

Bryson DeChambeau missed the 36-hole cut at the PGA Championship, as LIV Golf’s biggest star continues to struggle amid the league’s uncertain future.

DeChambeau, one of the top betting favorites coming into the week, shot 76 in Thursday’s first round and 71 in Friday’s second round to finish +7, missing the cut by three strokes.

It marks the second consecutive major championship that DeChambeau won’t be playing on the weekend. At the Masters, DeChambeau missed the cut by two strokes after making a triple bogey on his final hole of the second round.

Ahead of the Masters—and before LIV lost its future funding from the Saudi PIF—DeChameabu’s star power was trending upward with back-to-back LIV victories in March in Singapore and South Africa. With his LIV contract expiring after the 2026 season, DeChambeau was widely reported to be seeking $500 million to re-sign with the league.

But Dechambeau has not been able to translate his early-season success on LIV to the majors, and the league is currently fighting for survival beyond this year, seeking new investors and considering major operational changes.

DeChambeau did not speak to the media this week at Aronimink Golf Club just outside Philadelphia.

Last week at the LIV Golf Virginia event, DeChambeau spoke openly about a potential post-LIV future, reiterating that that could include him being tour-less and only playing the four major championships while focusing more on YouTube golf content.

Thanks to his 2024 U.S. Open win, DeChambeau is exempt into that championship through 2034, as well as the Masters and PGA Championship through 2029, and the Open Championship through 2028.

The PGA Tour later this month is rolling out an updated player social media policy, first reported by Front Office Sports, that could make it more attractive for DeChambeau to consider applying for reinstatement.

In January, DeChambeau and fellow LIV stars Jon Rahm and Cam Smith opted to not take advantage of the PGA Tour’s returning member program that allowed Brooks Koepka to immediately re-join the PGA Tour after leaving LIV in December.

DeChambeau will tee it up next at LIV Golf South Korea May 28-31. He’ll look to turn around his major performances in the U.S. Open June 28-21 and the Open Championship July 16-19.

Seven of the 11 LIV players at the PGA Championship made the cut, led by David Puig, who was two strokes back of the lead. Tyrrell Hatton, Thomas Detry, and Tom McKibbin missed the cut alongside DeChambeau.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
