‘Team Moms: Baseball’ Cast Hits Back at Critics

Youth sports are officially getting the reality TV treatment with the premiere of Team Moms: Baseball on Paramount+ later this week. Executive-produced by Kim Kardashian, the show follows seven families whose teenage sons attend Legendary Prep Academy, a baseball training school founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2024. 

“We knew immediately there was something special about this world,” Kardashian said in a press release last month announcing the eight-episode series. “These families are passionate, competitive and completely all in when it comes to their kids—and sometimes what happens in the stands is just as intense as what happens on the field.”

The show’s announcement and subsequent trailer release have sparked plenty of online conversation. A Front Office Sports post sharing the trailer on X/Twitter received more than 4 million views and generated dozens of responses that drew millions more. “This may well be the worst thing that could ever happen to the already crazed world of youth sports,” read one widely circulated reply. Another said simply: “Yeah, youth sports are cooked in the country.”

In interviews with Front Office Sports ahead of the Sept. 24 premiere, the Team Moms: Baseball cast responded to negative sentiment surrounding the show. 

“This is just kind of the direction in which young sports is going. Take it or leave it, hate it or love it,” said Heather Feldhacker, who stars alongside her ex-husband Scott and son Stryker. “I would’ve had such bad [fear of missing out] if I had said no to this because it was such a fun experience, and we’ve gotten so much exposure for our boys and the school.” 

Other cast members also pointed to the inevitability of youth sports reality content: Trina Taylor said she “can’t believe [a show like] this didn’t happen sooner,” while Nina Scoffone argued “there should be—and there probably will be—multiple camera crews” at youth sporting events moving forward, adding that “there is drama on every sideline.” 

Cast members said producers initially contacted them to participate in the series, which filmed in the spring. The show’s name suggests additional franchises centered around other youth sports may be in the works. Kim Kardashian Productions and co-producer ITV America could not be reached for comment.

The ongoing professionalization (and rising cost) of youth sports—fueled, in large part, by private equity—has been a hot-button topic for several years now. Paramount+ declined to comment when asked why it chose to air youth sports programming now. 

Sports-centric private schools like Legendary Prep Academy are multiplying across the country. For the cast, the school’s all-in-one model is a big part of its appeal.

“You play club ball, and then you get to a certain level and you need a pitching coach, and a strength and conditioning coach, an agility coach, and then you need someone to help you with nutrition, so you’re paying all of these places,” Scoffone said. “For us, Legendary Prep Academy was a no-brainer because it just combines everything into one. And I know from the outside looking in, it’s like, ‘Oh my god, these people send their kids to a crazy sports academy. How could you?’ But I would challenge them to do the math.”
