Texas Tech Unveils $200M Football Building Project

Texas Tech/Populous

With realignment changing the face of its conference, one Big 12 school is doubling down on football facilities with a massive new project.

On Tuesday, Texas Tech announced a construction project with a $200 million budget — the largest football investment in school history.

The project will largely be funded though “private fundraising and annual athletics department revenue streams, primarily from the sale of new premium inventory,” per the university.

At the heart of the project is a major renovation of the south end zone at Jones At&T Stadium and the new Womble Football Center, which will function as the team’s main training facility.

Kansas City-based design firm Populous has been behind much of the planning for the project. The firm also helped develop the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center in Lubbock.

The project will create 300,000 square feet of combined new space. It is expected to be completed before the 2024 football season.
