Tony Romo, CBS Sports’s No. 1 NFL game analyst, was arrested in Milwaukee on Thursday for OWI (operating while under the influence).

According to the arrest report obtained by Front Office Sports, the former Cowboys quarterback was pulled over while driving on Interstate 43. The 46-year-old Romo was taken into custody after “performing poorly on standardized field sobriety tests.” He’s due in court at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 21.

Fox6 in Milwaukee broke the news of Romo’s arrest, which comes just weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL season. Given the star power of Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Romo is likely to call the Bills-Texans Week 1 game on Sunday, Sep. 13 with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

After quarterbacking the Cowboys for 14 seasons, Romo joined CBS in 2017 and immediately became the network’s No. 1 game analyst, succeeding veteran Phil Simms. Romo quickly became a TV sensation, with viewers dubbing him “Romostradamus” for his uncanny ability to predict play calls just before they played out on the field.

But Romo has faced mounting criticism for his on-air performance in recent seasons. CBS also has a strong No. 2 team with JJ Watt and Ian Eagle.

In January, the four-time Pro Bowl selection tackled the criticism head-on during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show in January, telling the ESPN star that the criticism comes with the territory.

“I love it. It’s a great job,” said Romo.

During a separate interview with McCafee, Nantz acknowledged he hears “the noise” around his partner. But Nantz defended Romo as a uniquely talented sportscaster.

“We should celebrate the fact that he’s different. He’s got this oversized personality. He acts like a big kid in the booth,” Nantz told McAfee. “By the way, off the air, he’s a big kid. That’s what makes him fun. It’s authentic. It’s who he is.”

CBS is planning an in-person media session with its NFL on-air talent and executives for Aug. 11 in New York. It’s unclear if Romo will be attending.

A spokeswoman for CBS Sports declined to comment on Romo’s arrest on Friday.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
