San Diego State University has no active investigations into former Buffalo Bills punter Matt Araiza or other former SDSU football players accused of sexual assault.

“While the university cannot provide specific information related to its student disciplinary proceedings and investigations, or specific information related to student records, it can confirm that none of the former students named in the civil suit are now the subject of an active investigation,” SDSU said in a statement provided to ESPN.

A civil suit against Araiza is ongoing, but no criminal investigation remains since San Diego’s District Attorney’s office announced in December that former SDSU football players Arazia, Zavier Leonard, and Nowlin Ewaliko would not face criminal charges for their roles in an alleged rape of a 17-year-old on Oct. 15, 2021.

The Bills released Araiza days after he was accused of the assault. After more details emerged earlier this month of the alleged incident, Araiza’s defense attorney said the punter “just really wants to get back in the NFL.”
