Paige Shiver: Michigan Athletics Leadership Was Aware of Sherrone Moore Affair

The ex-Wolverines football staffer told GMA school officials knew about the affair but “didn’t do anything about it.”

Ex-University of Michigan football staffer Paige Shiver said multiple former colleagues, including athletic department leadership, were aware of her relationship with Sherrone Moore before she admitted to it in mid-December.

Shiver made the claims during an interview on Friday with Good Morning America—her first public interview since news of the scandal broke in December, after Moore was fired as Michigan’s football coach and then arrested after allegedly showing up at Shiver’s home and threatening self-harm (he has since entered a plea deal that does not include jail time).

Shiver told GMA she believes the university should have done more to protect her. “He controlled everything that was going on in my life and they didn’t do anything about it,” she said.

Shiver and Moore began a “consensual” relationship in 2022, while she was working as an athletics intern and he was the football program’s offensive coordinator. When Moore was promoted to head coach in 2024, Shiver was given the position of his executive assistant. Through tears, Shiver said she had become pregnant by Moore, but that due to a genetic disorder, she did not carry the baby to term.

Shiver also detailed multiple instances where she said she tried to end the relationship, but that Moore used tactics of “manipulation tactics” to convince her to stay. “Every time I tried to pull away, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in, and making me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me,” she said.

The university had opened an investigation in the fall over an anonymous tip, Front Office Sports reported last December, but university officials didn’t have enough information to act until Shiver came clean on Dec. 10. “They said, you know, we’re really sorry about everything that you went through and we’re here to protect you and help you through all this,” Shiver told GMA.

Moore was fired for cause that same day. Later, he entered Shiver’s apartment, she said, and refused to leave despite her requests that he do so. He began picking up butter knives and threatening self harm.

Moore, 40, was then arrested and spent the night in jail. He faced charges of third-degree home invasion (a felony), stalking, and breaking and entering. But his attorneys were able to strike a plea deal on two misdemeanors; he was sentenced to 18 months probation and about $1,100 in fines, no jail time. Shiver told GMA she believes Moore should have served jail time for his appearance at her house.

A Michigan athletics spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
