David Ross and Anthony Rizzo are relaunching The Lovable Reunion podcast with The Volume and rebranding it as Ross & Rizzo Unfiltered, a rep for the podcast network confirmed to Front Office Sports.
The former Cubs teammates were part of the franchise’s iconic 2016 World Series championship team. In addition to being distributed on YouTube and audio podcast platforms like Apple and Spotify, The Lovable Reunion also aired on Marquee Sports Network—the television home of the Cubs—and sold out a big live show at the Chicago Theatre in July.
The rebranded show will encompass all of MLB, not just the Cubs.
Ross told FOS the “main contributing factor” of continuing the show with Rizzo was because “I just enjoy being around him.”
“Talking to him pretty regularly has just been a joy for me. And then when we talk baseball, it’s just fun,” Ross said. “There’s so many relatable aspects to like how we think about the game and even just the differences have just been a lot of fun and staying connected to the game.”
Their reunion show resonated with Cubs fans.
“I think we knew the fan base would pick it up and enjoy a lot of that I think that’s where our heart was to start it and then just to be around our old teammates and tell all the stories that nobody’s heard was or maybe people had heard the stories but they hadn’t heard it from the mouth of whoever it actually happened to,” Ross said.
Ross and Rizzo have both stayed around baseball as TV analysts in their post-playing careers; Ross works for ESPN and Rizzo for NBC.
The Volume was founded by Colin Cowherd in 2021. The network’s other show hosts include Nick Wright, John Middlekauff, and Sophie Cunningham.
