Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has added yet another role to her impressive resume in the sports industry: part-owner of the Denver Broncos.

The team announced on Monday that Rice has joined its ownership group.

“Secretary Rice is well known as a passionate and knowledgeable football fan who has worked to make the sport stronger and better,” owner Rob Walton said in a statement.

Since serving in public office, Rice has taken part in leadership and investment positions in both college and professional sports.

  • Rice previously served on the committee for the College Football Playoff.
  • She was the chair of the NCAA’s Committee on College Basketball (and was a proponent of athletes’ regaining name, image, and likeness rights.)
  • She invested in the WNBA, taking part in the largest capital raise in its history.

Rice’s name has even been casually floated as a potential replacement for NCAA President Mark Emmert, who will step down by the end of June 2023.
