The Rising 25 class of 2019, presented by AB InBev, represents some of the brightest young professionals in the sports industry. Over the next several weeks, we’re proud to introduce you to this year’s winners and highlight some of their achievements to date.

Today, meet Daniel Everett: Senior Manager of Rights Acquisition at FloSports. Everett received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University and an M.B.A. from Iowa State University.

A track and field athlete in high school and college, Everett, his twin brother and their parents took over Milesplit Missouri, a website that covers high school track throughout the Show Me State. This was Everett’s first exposure to a possible career in sports.

FloSports bought Milesplit Inc. in 2016. The company kept Everett and his twin brother, then college students, on to compile track and field results from 25 states across the country. In October of that year, Everett was brought on as part of the rights acquisition and subscription team.

That initial call from FloSports came from, Ryan Fenton, someone whom Everett considers a mentor and a friend.

“Ryan was my boss all throughout college when I was doing the results for Milesplit,” Everett recalls. “Then he called me on my honeymoon and offered me the job at FloSports. He’s been super instrumental for me in not only getting where I am but helping me professionally, also.”

Everett, as well as FloSports as a whole, has been able to make an impact in the sports world by shining a spotlight on sports and events that do not typically receiving mainstream attention. These areas can’t be overlooked by young professionals looking to make their own impact within sports.

“When people think of sports, they typically only think of things like the four major sports. There’s so much more to the sports industry than just servicing those top leagues and those top sports,” Everett says. “Working at FloSports, my eyes have been opened to all of these communities and sports where there’s so much passion and so much interest for those sports. It’s been awesome to see. When you think about like marching band or cheerleading, they get kind of get looked down upon and everyone wants to work for the NFLs of the world, but there’s so much more out there underneath the surface.”

Being this open to new opportunities is Everett’s biggest piece of advice to students just beginning their sports career.

“You never know what’s on the other side of an opportunity,” he says. “That certainly speaks true for me. I would’ve never imagined that editing high school track and field videos would lead me to my full-time job and what’s been kind of a dream career for me. You also never know what connections are going to bring or what the skills that you’re learning are going to bring. My college job was posting high school track and field results. That made me so much better at what I do today. You just don’t know what you’re going to learn from those jobs.”
