Could Collectible NFTs Replace MLB Postseason Ticket Stubs?

  • MLB is providing an NFT to every fan attending a postseason game.
  • Candy Digital — an official NFT collectibles partner of MLB and MLB Players Inc. — is behind the push.

For decades, fans have been collecting ticket stubs as mementos of their attendance at MLB postseason games.

Now, the league is leaning into the digital side of collectibles — giving fans new keepsakes and possibly enhancing the fan experience.

For the first time, MLB will give away a free 2022 MLB Postseason Commemorative Ticket NFT to any fan who attends a 2022 Postseason game.

MLB Goes All In On NFTs

The NFT market has cooled off since the start of the year,…

Candy Digital — an official NFT collectibles partner of MLB and MLB Players Inc. — wanted to “design digital collectibles that evoke the same emotions fans feel when they’d look at a physical ticket stub, with additional elements that enhance the experience made possible by residing in the digital world on the blockchain.”

Each commemorative ticket will feature basics like matchup details, as well as the game’s location and time — but will take advantage of the digital medium by showcasing photos that are dynamically updated within 24 hours after the game.

Collecting Candy Digital’s MLB NFTs could also lead to attendance at the Fall Classic.

The company has created eight ultra-rare World Series Token NFTs that have been randomly inserted into 2022 MLB ICON Leadoff Series packs. Each token can be redeemed for two tickets to a 2022 World Series game.
