Usain Bolt Files for Trademark of Iconic Victory Pose

  • Bolt can use the logo on a variety of goods and services.
  • The pose was the 36-year-old’s signature when he was the top sprinter in the world.
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most iconic victory poses in Olympic history will be trademark protected.

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt recently filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for his signature victory pose — which the USPTO defines as “the silhouette of a man in a distinctive pose, with one arm bent and pointing to the head, and the other arm raised and pointing upward.”

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben was the first to report the filing.

Bolt will have the ability to use the logo on a variety of goods and services, including clothing, accessories, sporting goods, and restaurants.

Per Gerben, Bolt can license the logo or he can make those products featuring it himself.

The iconic pose was the 36-year-old’s signature when he was the top sprinter in the world, routinely striking it after races at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics.

Perhaps the logo could be worked into his extensive endorsements: In June 2021, he reportedly signed a lifetime deal with Puma.
