MLB All-Star Game TV Viewership Hits Record Low

  • Fox TV viewership for the Midsummer Classic fell 8% from last year.
  • But the network drew praise for production innovations like the Ump Cam.

TV viewership for Fox Sports’ coverage of the 2022 MLB All-Star Game sank to all-time lows — but Fox’s broadcast network won the night with its telecast of the 92nd edition of the Midsummer Classic.

And the network highlighted several production innovations, including an “Ump Cam” that could be a game-changer for baseball telecasts in the future.

Combined viewership for the American League’s 3-2 win over the National League at Dodger Stadium averaged 7.6 million viewers across Fox and Fox Deportes.

That’s off 8% from the average 8.3 million viewers for the 2021 game. It made Tuesday’s telecast the “lowest-rated and least-watched edition” of the annual All-Star game, according to Sports Media Watch.

But Fox’s All-Star telecast also ranked as the most-watched TV show on any network Tuesday, and MLB continued to offer the most-watched All-Star game for major U.S. Sports.

  • Fox’s viewership peaked at 8.2 million viewers between 9:15-9:30 ET.
  • Fox Deportes posted its second-highest audience ever (127,000) on Spanish-language TV.
  • Fox Digital drew its best ASG performance ever, with an AMA of over 107,000 across Fox’s streaming services.
  • The Top 5 TV markets were St. Louis, Los Angeles, San Diego, Kansas City, and Cleveland.

In contrast to MLB’s All-Star Game, the NFL’s 2022 Pro Bowl averaged 6.7 million viewers across ABC and ESPN. The NBA All-Star Game averaged 6.3 million viewers across TNT and TBS.
