Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment

The Brooklyn Nets unveiled a new community basketball court area in Brooklyn as part of the NYC Playground program, aiming to transform asphalt playgrounds into vibrant city parks for the community.

Helping the Nets transform I.S. 71 were the New York Liberty, the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, and the NYC Department of Environmental Practice.

In renovating rundown areas into vibrant city parks, the powerhouses mentioned transformed an empty lot into a luxurious basketball court with the following amenities:

  • Outdoor classroom
  • Basketball courts
  • Turf field
  • Running track
  • Trees and permeable pavers
  • Play equipment
  • Fitness equipment

Additionally, there are areas for game tables, benches, recycling centers, and a drinking fountain. All will be accessible for the community during non-school hours and will serve over 17,000 residents (4,600 children) living within a 10-minute walking distance.

“We know that the skills learned in basketball can transcend into tools for life and through this partnership, we are helping ensure the surrounding community has a place to play,” said Mandy Gutmann, Executive Vice President, Community Relations and Communications, BSE Global.
