Amazon Targets Charissa Thompson, Colleen Wolfe For Pregame Show

  • Amazon could tap Thompson or Wolfe to host ‘Thursday Night Football’ pregame show.
  • Kay Adams of ‘Good Morning Football’ has been the frontrunner in negotiations for the job.

The race to host Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” pregame show suddenly has two new competitors.

Amazon is eyeing both Charissa Thompson of Fox Sports and Colleen Wolfe of NFL Network, sources tell Front Office Sports.

Kay Adams of NFLN’s’ “Good Morning Football” has been the favorite to land the Amazon job. With her contract expiring in May, Adams has been pursued by both Amazon and a major sports betting company.

But Amazon and Adams haven’t agreed on a contract yet, said sources, possibly opening the door for Thompson or Wolfe.  Adams could still land the gig. But now she has serious competition.

Both Thompson and Wolfe have pregame NFL show experience.

Thompson serves as host of the secondary “Fox NFL Kickoff” pregame show, which sets the table for “Fox NFL Sunday.” She also hosts “We’re Good Here with Charissa Thompson” on Spotify Live and co-hosts the “Calm Down” podcast with fellow Fox talent Erin Andrews.

At various times, Wolfe has hosted everything from “NFL GameDay Kickoff” and “Good Morning Football: Weekend” to “NFL Total Access” and studio coverage of the Super Bowl and NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Amazon is also eyeing Pat McAfee to host a “ManningCast” style alternate telecast for TNF. Retiring NFL QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is also in talks with Amazon, according to Ian Rapoport.

The tech giant previously announced that Al Michaels and ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit will call its main TNF telecast. Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, another ex-Fox talent, was also announced as a studio analyst.

Amazon has also been making a last-minute push to hire Super Bowl-winning coach Sean Payton as a studio analyst. Payton has been talking to both Amazon and Fox.

Amazon declined to comment for this story.
