Amazon’s Prime Video announced it is now the official streaming service of the Seattle Storm.
With around 30 games available to Prime customers in the state, Amazon Prime becomes one of the first streamers with local WNBA broadcasting rights.
Seattle-based Prime Video also has exclusive rights to 17 national WNBA games this season as part of a multi-year deal with the league, including the second annual Commissioner’s Cup and the Cup Championship Game.
“We’re thrilled that Amazon is investing in the growth of the WNBA,” Storm president and CEO Alisha Valavanis said. “The momentum continues.”
Prime Video membership costs $8.99 per month or can be included with a Prime subscription for $14.99 per month, whereas WNBA League Pass costs $24.99 for the entire season following a free, 7-day trial.
For the 2021 season, the league’s combined viewership averaged 306,000 viewers across Disney networks. Between CBS and ESPN, the WNBA is estimated to receive at least $25 million per year.
Prime Video’s first exclusive game of the season is May 8, when the Los Angeles Sparks face the Indiana Fever.
