Tickets for the World Series sold out about 90 minutes after they went on sale on Oct. 6.
There were 11,550 tickets available for each game at Globe Life Field, about 29% of the capacity of the Texas Rangers’ new stadium in Arlington, Tex, that will host the National League Championship Series and World Series. The tickets were sold in groups of four, called “pods,” and each pod will be six feet apart, a safety measure put in place due to the pandemic.
Tickets sold through MLB.com started at $75 each for the World Series. Some NLCS tickets were still available as of 1:30 pm ET on Oct. 6.
On secondary ticket sites like SeatGeek, World Series tickets ranged from around $400 each to more than $2,000 each per sold in four-seat packages.
Game 1 of the NLCS scheduled for Oct. 12 will be the first game to allow fans at the retractable roof ballpark that cost an estimated $1.2 billion. The World Series is slated to begin on Oct. 20.
The NLCS will also be the first MLB games to allow fans overall this season due to COVID-19. The league had kept games closed amid the Wild Card and Division Series rounds.
San Diego’s Petco Park and Dodger Stadium are the neutral site venues for the AL Division Series, while Globe Life Field and Houston’s Minute Maid Park will house the NL Division Series.
No fans will be allowed in the ALCS, which will be played at Petco Park.
MLB said in a news release it “received the appropriate approvals to host fans” in Arlington as it announced safety protocols for the NLCS and World Series.
Protocols for fans include:
- Mandatory masks, unless a fan is eating or drinking. They will be provided if fans forget or lose theirs.
- Fans had to purchase one pod – each with four tickets – and each pod would be at least six feet apart.
- No fans are allowed to be within 20 feet from the field, bullpen or dugout.
- There will be no temperature checks of fans entering the ballpark, but health officials recommend “self-screening” of known COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, chills and loss of taste.
- No bags will be allowed inside the ballpark and the same goes for outside food. All food purchased at concessions stands “will be pre-packaged upon purchase.”
- No paper tickets or cash will be accepted.
MLB, Rangers and local officials have not finalized procedures for how fans enter and exit NLCS and World Series games, including if there’d be a perimeter established to keep those without tickets from congregating near the park.
