Caleb Williams, after being fined twice by the NFL for displaying unauthorized logos on his shoes during two previous games, wore cleats with no prominent logos during the Bears’ game Monday night in Seattle.

Williams is believed to have worn the same brand of cleats, Caddix, during the game against the Seahawks. The company wrote Monday night on Twitter/X: “No logo necessary!”

The two recent fines imposed on the quarterback by the NFL totaled nearly $36,000.

“Just to calm things down, man,” Williams said during his postgame news conference. “… It was a big week and not here to create any b.s. towards the team. You know, I want to keep that to a minimum from my side. Obviously I get a lot of media. And so just trying to minimize that as much as possible.”

Jack Rasmussen, the founder and CEO of Caddix, told Front Office Sports on Friday that he did not agree with the league’s fines, but the practical solution was perhaps for Williams to continue to wear the cleats but cover or remove the logos to avoid further fines, as NFL rules permit.

“I think that makes sense,” Rasmussen told FOS on Friday. “Like I said, I mean, the whole fine situation makes sense. So if what’s going to happen and what needs to happen to keep him on the field and for the cameras to be out of his face, to hide the logo … I think that’s what needs to happen. I don’t agree with it. But I think down the road, you know, hiding the logo is kind of one of the … numerous options that we have to remedy the situation.”

Rasmussen also told FOS: “We have two models right now that are in circulation. And one of the logos is very inconspicuous.”

Williams has appealed at least one of his fines and has a hearing scheduled for Nov. 10, Rasmussen told FOS.

The NFL fined Williams $11,941 for the unauthorized Caddix logo on his cleats in one previous game. The fine was doubled to $23,882 for another game. NFL rules prohibit a player from displaying a non-approved logo on footwear.

The NFL’s authorized footwear suppliers are Adidas, Nike, and Under Armour. A limited number of players are permitted to wear footwear with the Air Jordan brand. A player can opt to wear footwear from another company but, in that case, must have all visible third-party names, logos, brands, and other commercial identification removed or covered, a process known as spatting.
