San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in Ohio over the weekend, court records show.
Columbiana County, Ohio, court records showed that York posted a $5,000 bond and was released on his own recognizance after pleading no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. York, who spent one day in jail, was hit with a total of $1,150 in fines plus additional court fees.
An initial filing said that York was arraigned for “engaging in prostitution,” and the East Palestine police made the arrest along with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. The MVHTTF will receive $160 that was seized from York, according to court records.
The task force and a lawyer listed for York did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
York filed a motion to seal the case that was denied by the court, according to court records.
The East Palestine police did not immediately comment.
York, 46, has been the team’s CEO since 2008 and inherited the team from his parents. He is from Youngstown, Ohio, not far from the site of his weekend arrest.
“As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” the 49ers said in a written statement.
NFL owners are subject to the league’s personal conduct policy. Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two misdemeanors in a 2019 prostitution case, though the charges were later thrown out by a Florida court and Kraft was never disciplined by the league.
“We are aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.
Late Colts owner Jim Irsay was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 by the NFL in 2014 under the personal conduct policy after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. Irsay acknowledged in court that he was under the influence of painkillers while driving near his home in an Indianapolis suburb.
