PGA Tour, Cadillac Back at Trump Doral After a Decade Away

The revived tournament will bear a similar name to the past: the Cadillac Championship.

A decade after the PGA Tour’s departure from Trump National Doral, its return to the famed course in 2026 is looking more and more like its former presence in South Florida.

The revived tournament—at one of the many courses around the world owned by U.S. President Donald Trump—will be called the Cadillac Championship, set to be played April 30 to May 3. The General Motors–owned luxury car brand has agreed to a multiyear deal that will see it pay north of $20 million annually to once again have its name on the event.

From 2011 to 2016, the PGA Tour event at Doral was called the WGC-Cadillac Championship, part of a series of the former World Golf Championships, which offered elevated purses for elite player fields (the WGCs ceased operations after 2021). The Trump Organization bought the former Doral Golf Resort & Spa out of bankruptcy in 2012 for $150 million.

After the 2016 edition, Cadillac opted not to renew its tournament sponsorship and the PGA Tour decided to move that WGC event from Doral to Mexico City, where it was played from 2017 to 2020.

The move away from Doral was announced in June, as Trump emerged as the 2016 Republican presidential nominee. At the time, former PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said the move was due to the inability to find a new title sponsor at Doral, not because of controversy surrounding Trump. Cadillac never explicitly cited Trump’s ownership of the course as a reason for not renewing its sponsorship.

The new Cadillac Championship, which will not carry over tournament records and historical stats from the former Doral tournament, is one of eight signature events on the PGA Tour in 2026, which will pay out $20 million purses to limited, exclusive fields. Tournament title sponsors typically fund the prize money plus some other costs.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, in Monday’s announcement of the news, called the return to Doral “a new era” for the circuit in Miami. He said Cadillac is “synonymous with Trump National Doral, a legacy venue on our schedule.” Trump Organization EVP Eric Trump called Cadillac “an iconic brand and a longtime friend.”

Doral hosted LIV Golf events from 2022 to 2025, but it will not host one next year. Trump’s relationship with the PGA Tour has continued to improve this year. He hosted a meeting at the White House in February with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and Tiger Woods, as the parties attempted to solve the divide in men’s professional golf.
