The University of Miami hosted sport industry insiders, influencers and executives on April 5th and 6th at their Goral Gables campus for the University of Miami’s annual Global Entertainment + Sport Conference 2018.

The conference is one of several benefits available to University of Miami online sport administration students that offers a unique networking and hands- learning opportunity beyond the virtual classroom. In fact – the conference was designed with students in mind, to help them leverage sport industry insiders to get their foot in the door or advance their current career in sport.

“The conference was designed with networking in mind, giving students, alumni, and business and legal professionals many opportunities to meet and interact. This is another opportunity we try to give students to meet industry professionals,” explained University of Miami Professor Erin McNary.

Some of the conferences most valuable moments took place after each panel where attendees were able to interact with speakers as well as network among other attendees including sport industry professionals at all levels. Current online MSED in Sport Administration student Derrick Hardy reflected, “The panels were great, the discussions were great and having that one-on-one and being able to speak with them and learn their perspective and how they got to the point that they are in their lives was definitely the highlight of the conference.”

In addition to networking opportunities, the UM Sport Industry Council was introduced during the conference. The council was founded by University of Miami department chair, Professor Warren Whisenant, to provide mentorship among students in the Sport Administration on-campus and online programs. The council includes two University of Miami online MSED in Sport Administration alumni Stephen Bashore, General Manager Buffalo Run Casino and Resort and Marcelo Claudino, Chief Executive Officer of Top Soccer and Top Consulting who also sat on the conference’s panel on Financial Advising for Athletes.

Bashore explains, “Attending conferences like the UM Global Sport and Entertainment Conference is one of the best ways for students to network. To survive in this industry you need to meet as many people as you can and learn as much as you can about the industry.”

Both the UM Global Entertainment and Sport conference and the University of Miami Sport Industry Council are two unique opportunities for students to step beyond the virtual classroom and leverage the strong connections that the University of Miami’s sport administration program boasts. The program which was introduced in 2015, strives to provide students with the connections and knowledge necessary to succeed within the sport industry.

The University of Miami’s online graduate program in Sport Administration is currently accepting applications for students who wish to start classes September 3rd. For more information contact you can contact an enrollment advisor at 800-411-2290 or visit the site for more information.
