Colorado football assistant coaches are setting a new record this upcoming season, bringing in the highest combined salaries in school history. After making a combined $4.59 million in base and supplemental salary last season, the 10 full-time assistants staffed under Deion Sanders will earn $4.65 million this season, according to BuffZone.

New defensive coordinator Robert Livingston will set a school record for the highest single-season salary for an assistant coach in 2025 with $995,000, which will grow from $800,000 in ’24. Close behind Livingston is new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who will get $800,000 in ’24 and $850,000 in ’25, per BuffZone.

The school is saving money—Coach Prime’s 2023 staff would have cost more if they all stayed for another year, according to BuffZone. Plus, the school will get $475,000 from coaches who ended contracts early for other gigs, BuffZone said.

Coach Prime signed a $29.5 million contract with Colorado for five years.

The record-breaking figures came off the news earlier this month, which shows that the athletic department recorded a deficit of almost $9.9 million in the 2022–23 school year. Colorado football finished the season at the bottom of the Pac-12, but Sanders brought new life to the program and was named Sports Illustrated’s 2023 Sportsperson of the Year.
