Charles Barkley Announces Retirement From Television

  • Barkley noted that he had spoken to multiple different networks.
  • The 2024-2025 season would be his 25th on television.
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

During his postgame comments after Game 4 of the 2024 NBA Finals, Charles Barkley announced that the 2024-25 season would be his final season as an NBA commentator, capping off what would be 25 years with Turner Broadcasting.

Barkley briefly referred to the ongoing media rights negotiations between the league and TNT, and mentioned names such as Jamal Crawford and Vince Carter as potential successors to his seat as one of the sport’s most prominent broadcasters.

After the game, Barkley mentioned his appreciation for his longtime colleagues at TNT, along with his intentions to end his broadcasting career after next season.

“I’ve talked to all the other networks…but I ain’t going nowhere, other than TNT,” Barkely said.

“But, I have made the decision myself. No matter what happens, next year is going to be my last year on television.”
