Women Breaking Through

Article presented to you by Maximus. Strategic Consulting.

By: Alexis Robinson, @_alexismarie24

In the week of Women’s Equality Day, I thought my first post to FOS should be about women breaking into sports. Owning a public relations firm for professional athletes and entertainers, my focus has always been to empower girls to truly go after it if they want to be in this industry. I was really lucky in my journey into sports but have quickly compiled some tips for all young ladies out there.

Be Resilient

Unfortunately, today there are still occurrences and times where women aren’t completely equal on the playing field when it comes to sports jobs. This unequal playing field exists in the opportunities being available, salaries, etc. DON’T LET UP! Keep going and keep striving for what you want. Hard work really does pay off.

Gain Experience

Do a lot of research when it comes to things going on around you Whether it be teams or sporting events, reach out to see if you can help out in any capacity. A lot of my business has come from working on things locally before expanding.

Your Passion Resonates

I found out I am better at doing public relations for the athletes and projects I really enjoy. In the beginning I worked on everything that came my way. Although it was nice to get all the experience I could, I feel like I am a better publicist because I work on things I love.

There’s a ton of other tips out there but those three have been the most effective in my journey. I get internship seeking emails every single day and I get so excited to share my passion with others because I truly think sports bring the world together. If it’s your passion, go after it! I truly think I have one of the best jobs in the world, and you can too!
