How Taylor Swift’s Catalog Fueled Scott Borchetta’s Push Into Sports

Scott Borchetta profited greatly from the sale of Swift’s masters.

Entertainment executive Scott Borchetta is expanding his reach into sports.

KMM Sports, the boutique agency built by NFL agent Kelli Masters, is partnering with Borchetta’s eponymous entertainment group as part of a strategic push to integrate brand-building into its approach to client management.

The new partnership also involves Erik Logan, the former CEO of the World Surf League and current CEO of Robbins Research International and chief advisor to Tony Robbins.

Borchetta is best known for founding Big Machine Label Group in 2005, which set the foundation for him to build what Forbes estimates to be a $450 million net worth. Big Machine has produced a number of stars over the years, but none more successful than Taylor Swift, whose catalog made up a significant portion of the label’s value when Borchetta made moves to sell the label in 2019.

Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings bought the label for an estimated $300 million—nearly half of that value being attributed to Swift’s music—contributing greatly to Borchetta’s net worth, as he owned 90% of Big Machine at the time. According to Forbes, Borchetta also gained a 13% stake in Ithaca, which allowed him to build more wealth off of two subsequent deals. One in 2020, when Swift’s catalog was sold to Shamrock Holdings, a firm originally founded by members of the Disney family, for an estimated $360 million, and a second time when Braun sold Ithaca to Hybe, a Korean entertainment conglomerate, for $1 billion.

Swift, no longer in control of her catalog, took the opportunity to re-record her first six albums as “Taylor’s Version,” making a statement that sent waves through the music industry and essentially devalued the masters that Shamrock now owned. The firm eventually sold everything, including the master recordings and various intellectual property, back to Swift in 2025

Borchetta, meanwhile, has invested his wealth into buying back Big Machine from Hybe; launching his own entertainment firm that focuses on artist management and “long-term career architecture”; and motor sports: he owns Big Machine Racing, a NASCAR Xfinity Series team that began competing in 2021. The partnership with KMM is his first foray into football.

Logan previously worked with Oprah Winfrey, serving as president of OWN and Harpo Studios for a decade.

KMM said in a press release that the partnership with Borchetta Entertainment and Logan “gives KMM Sports something no boutique agency has ever had: the brand-building infrastructure, media relationships, and business management capabilities of a world-class entertainment organization—while preserving the personal, relationship-driven representation that has defined KMM for two decades.”

Masters represents Cooper McDonald, a linebacker for the NFL’s Chiefs. Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, announced earlier this year that he would be returning to Kansas City for a 14th season after retirement rumors swirled.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
