Steelers Receiver DK Metcalf Swings at Lions Fan During Game

During the second quarter of Steelers-Lions, Metcalf was observed swinging at a Lions fan in the front row.

CBS Sports

The Steelers are suddenly in danger of losing DK Metcalf to a suspension down the stretch of the NFL season after the star wideout swung at a fan in Detroit.

During the second quarter of the Steelers-Lions game, Metcalf was observed swinging at a Detroit fan in the front row. CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said that the Lions fan was holding a Metcalf jersey and said something that set him off. Metcalf took a swing and appeared to connect. Metcalf’s swing was shown on camera, but what led up to it was not.

“That is not gonna have great consequences for the Steelers,” play-by-play broadcaster Jim Nantz said. He later added that there was “about a 100%” chance the league would take action.

Front Office Sports has reached out to the NFL to see if it has an immediate comment.

Metcalf was not ejected from the game, as he was targeted on the next Steelers drive and dropped a pass from Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers signed Metcalf to a $72 million contract extension, including $58 million in guarantees, last offseason after acquiring him in a trade with the Seahawks.

The Steelers improved to 9-6 with a win over Detroit on Sunday, remaining in first place in the AFC North. Baltimore entered the day at 7-7 and is playing Sunday night. Pittsburgh plays at Cleveland next Sunday before hosting the Ravens to close the regular season.
