Caitlin Clark is joining Patrick Mahomes and Chris Paul as signature athletes working with State Farm.
The insurance company has aligned itself with sports, featuring Mahomes and Paul in commercials, and placing ads in locker rooms, even when when recognizable athletes are not involved. Clark adds a woman and State Farm’s first collegiate athlete to its long-term roster.
State Farm CMO Kristyn Cook joined Front Office Sports Today to make the announcement.
“When you think about the past season, the anticipation around the next season coming up, she was a major driver … of the excitement around women’s basketball and women’s sports at large,” said Cook.
Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes made it to the NCAA finals, making a name for herself and stoking a rivalry with LSU’s Angel Reese along the way. The final drew 9.9 million viewers on ABC, setting a record for an NCAA women’s basketball game.
“We invest in sports in particular,” said Cook. “We want to reach large, engaged audiences. … We’re seeing an inflection point with women’s sports in particular and we just thought it was the right time for us.”
Later in the episode, retired NHL player and veteran broadcaster Eddie Olczyk joins the show to discuss the state of the league amid signs of growth, including a rising salary cap and talk of expansion.
