Michael Jordan’s game-worn Air Jordan 13s from Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals have set a new world record for the most expensive sneakers ever sold.

The company said Tuesday that the pair of Jordans sold for a record-breaking $2.2 million at a Sotheby’s auction. It’s not the first piece of memorabilia from the Chicago Bulls’ notorious “Last Dance” season to break records at an auction.

Jordan scored 37 points in those record-breaking shoes against the Utah Jazz in Game 2. After the game, he gave away the sneakers to a Utah Jazz ball boy.

The Bulls went on to win the series and earn the franchise’s sixth NBA title.

Jordan’s jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $10.1 million at a Sotheby’s auction last September, making it the highest sale price ever for a Jordan collectible.

The identity of the fan who bought the Air Jordan 13s was not disclosed. The $2.2M chunk of change edged out a previous pair of game-worn Jordan sneakers that were auctioned for $1.47 million in 2021, which was the most-expensive sneaker selling price at the time.
