Since being let go by Fox Sports in July 2025 amid a programming shakeup, Joy Taylor has kept busy.
The third season of her podcast, Two Personal, is underway, as is The Daily Play, a micro-podcast she launched earlier this year in partnership with Urban One Podcast Network. She also runs a charitable foundation and is investing in sports startups.
In an interview with Front Office Sports, however, Taylor acknowledged that most Americans are just as swamped as she is—which is why she thinks the NFL’s ongoing push to expand its schedule is “greedy” and ill-advised.
“One thing the NFL naturally had in its favor was an impeccable sense of urgency because of the length of its season,” Taylor told FOS. “You had just the right amount of games so that every single one matters … that brings a level of anxiety for a viewer that is not transferable to most other sports.”
The younger sister of Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor continued: “Everything we do in life is distracting. And if you have a system that fights the lack of attention consumers have these days, why would you break that? … There are other things people are interested in and obligated to—jobs, family, kids, soccer practice, cheerleading competitions. You can’t dedicate your entire life to watching the NFL just because it’s on six days a week.”
Asked later about the NFL’s also ongoing push for international growth—which was on full display again last week when commissioner Roger Goodell said he has “no doubt” the league will eventually have teams outside of the United States—Taylor was a little softer. The former The Herd with Colin Cowherd anchor said she “gets” the league’s impulse and believes an NFL team based in London is “inevitable,” citing the relatively short flight from the East Coast and lack of a language barrier.
Still, she warned that the NFL needs “to be careful not to overindulge and leverage” its fan base too much. (Fan exploitation is becoming something of a topic du jour among the sports chattering class; both Pablo Torre and Bill Simmons discussed the subject in widely circulated podcast clips last week.)
“I think they’re playing with fire,” Taylor said to round out her response to NFL-related questions. “You’ve got enough money. Chill.”
