One of golf’s most polarizing figures has apparently been lobbying to join golf’s most polarizing competition.

During a recent interview with Piers Morgan, John Daly said he “begged” Greg Norman to let him play for LIV Golf, citing the Saudi-backed venture’s willingness to compensate players for pro-ams as a central reason.

“I play two-to-three pro-ams every week on the Champions tour, and we don’t play for a lot of money on the Champions tour, so I almost feel like, ‘OK, I’m not getting a lot out of this. What are we doing?’” said Daly.

“They play pro-ams, it’s a big party, they play for a lot of money, which these guys that are on that tour, deserve that money. And I think there’s a lot of other guys that deserve that money, especially this old man,” he said, pointing to himself.

As for why he was not chosen for LIV, Daly said, “Greg says he’s not doing anymore, and I’m too old.”

Daly also mentioned that the “politics” of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf feud has been “stupid,” pointing out that several Tour sponsors have questionable business practices themselves.

The 56-year-old two-time major champion made headlines in recent months when he and his son, John Daly II, signed a multiyear partnership with Hooters.
