The Basketball Tournament has grown steadily since it started in 2014 — and for this summer’s competition, it boasts a record 71 former NBA players and 29 college alumni teams.
But the biggest name is Jimmer Fredette — former BYU national Player of the Year and the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft — who will play for The Money Team.
The 33-year-old’s NBA career didn’t pan out as anticipated — he played for six different teams in eight seasons, earning roughly $8.6 million — but Fredette can snag another payday if his team takes home the title.
There’s a $1 million prize for conquering the TBT’s 64-team bracket, with added excitement thanks to the league’s use of the “Elam Ending” format, which favors a target score instead of a running clock.
Joining Fredette will be two of Overtime Elite’s upcoming stars — Ausar Thompson and Amen Thompson — both of whom are projected to be lottery picks in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The brothers make a minimum of $100,000 with OTE, plus another $100,000 of college tuition if they decide not to play professionally.
This year’s tournament begins July 16 at New York City’s historic Rucker Park.
