Jaguars Could Add Shade Roof in Potential $1B Stadium Upgrade

  • Plans also include decreasing the venue’s capacity from 68,000 to roughly 60,000.
  • TIAA Bank Field hosts other events, including the annual Florida-Georgia game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a deal with an architecture company to redesign TIAA Bank Field, the team’s home since 1995.

“We will essentially end up with a new stadium built on the existing structure,” Jaguars president Mark Lamping said. The renovations and upgrades could reach $1 billion.

The Jaguars — owned by billionaire Shahid Khan — have selected design and urban planning firm HOK to conduct an extensive renovation of TIAA Bank Field, but no contract has been signed. The Missouri-based firm submitted preliminary concepts of the upgrades to help secure its selection and will take on the role of design architect when and if a deal is finalized.

  • The renovations include a shade roof covering over TIAA Bank Field’s seating bowl.
  • Plans also include decreasing the venue’s capacity from 68,000 to roughly 60,000
  • TIAA Bank Field hosts other events, including the annual Florida-Georgia game.

The Jaguars plan to pay for the upgrades through a public-private partnership, and the renovations would need to be attached to the team’s lease, which runs through 2030.

HOK has had previous experience with NFL teams.

The firm was part of the Atlanta Falcons’ $1.8 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium project and the renovation of the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium, which cost more than $500 million

More to Come

Last year, the Jaguars announced plans to build a $120 million football complex, which will feature training facilities for players, offices, practice fields, and grandstands for fans.
