As ESPN looks to grow its podcast presence, the company is turning to a new daily morning one starting in October.

According to Ben Strauss of the Washington Post, the podcast is expected to include a mix of news coverage, trends in sports and feature stories done by ESPN’s team of reporters.

Following a similar trend…

In a recent episode of Shot Callers, Mike Greenberg pointed out the fact that shows like Get Up are focused on making “the sports fan smarter.”

The same can be said about the new daily podcast. ESPN EVP Norby Williamson, who is also behind Get Up’s content strategy, told Strauss in his interview that the podcast is going to be “elevated and highly produced.”

Key things to note…

–  New episodes will be available every weekday morning and run between 18 and 25 minutes.

– The goal is to have one host, but the company is considering staffing it with a roster of rotating hosts.

Podcasts present a growing opportunity…

So much so that ESPN shuttered ESPN Deportes Radio earlier this year to focus on podcasts.

In recent years, the company has launched podcasts with personalities like Woj, Mina Kimes, Bomani Jones and Zach Lowe. They even launched a podcast version of the critically acclaimed “30 for 30” documentary series.
