Chris Bosh Makes Case for LeBron James Heat Return

Bosh has not spoken to James about his next team but doesn’t think his former teammate’s legacy is a major factor.

Chris Bosh knows a thing or two when it comes to LeBron James and free agency.

In 2010, Bosh famously teamed up with James and Dwyane Wade in Miami to form the “Big Three,” which resulted in two NBA championships. Days before James appeared on ESPN to announce ‘The Decision’ in July 2010, Bosh and Wade posted a photo together at a table, with an empty chair indicating James would join them.

Now James is a free agent for the third time in his career and his former teammate is advocating for a reunion with the Heat. Bosh, who played seven seasons in Miami before retiring due to blood clots in 2019, said South Beach offers James a chance to win and work on his golf game simultaneously.

“When you’re older, when you’re ready to retire, you go to Miami,” Bosh joked in an interview with Front Office Sports.

Bosh, who will play in a USA Basketball / RX3 Foundation three-on-three charity basketball tournament in Orange County on Aug. 1, has not been in touch with James regarding his current free agency, but thinks his friend and former teammate isn’t worried about the perception that will come with his next decision. The 41-year-old is reportedly considering the Cavaliers, Heat, Sixers, and Warriors. Multiple Western Conference executives previously told FOS they expect James to sign with either the Cavs or Warriors.

“I think legacy and reputation, that’s already built,” Bosh said to FOS. “I think now it’s just what he wants to do. You have to have so many things you have to consider. Family, your interests, I’m sure business interests as well and being competitive at the same time. I think some people can get too caught up in the legacy thing because they want their legacy to be his and that’s not how it is. He’s earned the right to make his own decision. No pun intended.

“So I think it will be really interesting. I think he does want to stay competitive but at the same time if he can have that work/life balance that would be the best situation for him and his family.”

As for when James will announce where he’ll be spending the 2026-27 season, that remains unclear. Speaking on his Game Over podcast earlier this week, the four-time MVP’s agent, Rich Paul, insisted that he and his star client are “not going to be rushed.”

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
