NFL writer Steven Ruiz is leaving The Ringer for Fox Sports digital, sources told Front Office Sports.
Fox Sports declined to comment.
Ruiz, who joined The Ringer from USA Today’s For the Win blog in 2021, announced Friday that he was leaving the Spotify-owned outlet that was founded by Bill Simmons.
“Sad day for me. It’s my last at the Ringer,” Ruiz wrote on Twitter/X. “Can’t say enough about this place and all of the great people I worked with, from the editors to the copy desk to all the talented writers on staff, they all made me better. Excited for my next stop but it doesn’t make this any easier. I worked with so many great people and Megan Schuster is at the top of the list. She was my editor for all 5 years and my manager for the last few. Just an endlessly talented editor and an even better person. The prospect of not working with Meg is the hardest part about leaving.”
At Fox Sports, Ruiz joins a roster of NFL writers that also includes Greg Auman and Henry McKenna.
Earlier this week, The Ringer announced that Tom Pelissero would be joining the platform with roles including hosting its NFL podcast and appearing weekly on Simmons’s show. Pelissero, the longtime former NFL Network reporter, will also be Netflix’s lead league insider and appear as a sideline reporter on its telecasts this season. Several Ringer podcasts, including Simmons’s, air on Netflix.
