Jacob Tobey Out as Spurs Announcer After Affair Allegation

A post accusing Tobey of having an affair with the sister of a Spurs player went viral on social media this week.

Jacob Tobey is out as the Spurs’ lead play-by-play announcer after he was accused on social media of cheating on his girlfriend with the sister of a player on the team, sources told Front Office Sports.

Reps for the Spurs and Tobey could not immediately be reached for comment.

Tobey, a talented young announcer who has called Spurs games since 2024, was on FOS’s list of rising young play-by-play broadcasters last year. Prior to joining the Spurs’ booth, he worked at 9NEWS in Denver and has called play-by-play for outlets including Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.

Earlier this week, multiple posts accusing Tobey of the affair were shared on his Instagram account. The posts went viral across multiple social media platforms. In a subsequent post on her own social media account, Tobey’s girlfriend indicated that she was responsible for the posts on his account and that their relationship is now over.

The vacancy is one of the most appealing team announcer jobs in recent memory. The Spurs made the NBA Finals this past season and have an electric young core that includes Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
