In a stunning turnaround, play-by-play broadcaster Jacob Tobey has gotten his job with the Spurs back after a controversy earlier this offseason.
Front Office Sports previously reported that Tobey was out of the role after his girlfriend seemingly logged into his Instagram account and accused him of cheating on her with the sister of a player on the team.
“I thank the Spurs for allowing me time to step away to sort out issues in my personal life,” Tobey wrote Friday afternoon on Twitter/X. “I understand that I will have to regain trust within the organization and across our community, a community where I will continue to be present with enthusiasm and passion. I believe I have the best job in the world and am thrilled to be able to continue as the team’s play-by-play announcer.”
A source confirmed to FOS that Tobey has indeed gotten his job back with the team. The Spurs declined to comment, and his agency, The Montag Group, could not immediately be reached.
Tobey was included on FOS’s list of 26 rising play-by-play broadcasters last year.
