Adam Schefter and ESPN are closing in on a long-term extension that would keep him at the network several years into the 2030s, sources told Front Office Sports.
Financial terms of the deal were not immediately known. The New York Post reported in 2022 that Schefter’s last contract with ESPN was worth in the neighborhood of $9 million per year.
An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment.
The move bolsters ESPN’s armada of NFL insiders, including Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, Mike Garafolo, Jeremy Fowler, Kimberley Martin, Dan Graziano, Jeff Darlington, and Judy Battista. FOS previously reported that ESPN is keeping Rapoport and Garafolo, who came over in the NFL Network acquisition, on new deals.
In April, the 59-year-old Schefter emphasized that he had no plans to retire from NFL reporting early, like former ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski did in taking the GM job at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure in 2024.
“I know a lot has been made about my age this week and how I’m retiring, which by the way, no fucking chance about that if you don’t mind my language,” Schefter said on his eponymous podcast in April.
Schefter joined ESPN in 2009, creating a formidable insider duo with the late, great Chris Mortensen. He has long been one of the network’s most prolific talents, appearing up and down the lineup of studio shows, including the NFL Countdown programs on Sundays and Mondays during football season.
