LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy is accused of causing a car crash Dec. 17 that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man.

Two days later, he declared for the NFL Draft.

On Friday, Louisiana State Police issued an arrest warrant for Lacy, 24, with charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Police say they have been in contact with Lacy and his attorney to turn himself in. A news release from the police said Lacy was in a 2023 Dodge Charger heading south on Louisiana Highway 20 when he “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline” and entered the northbound lane while in a no-passing zone. While he illegally passed other vehicles, the driver of a pickup truck in the northbound lane abruptly braked and swerved right to avoid hitting Lacy head-on.

The victim was driving behind the pickup truck, swerved left to avoid Lacy’s car, and hit another car traveling in the opposite direction. He later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Police added that Lacy drove around the crash scene and left without stopping to offer aid, contact authorities, or report his involvement in the crash.

Lacy spent his first two seasons at Louisiana-Lafayette before transferring to LSU. In 2024, he had 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. Lacy, who graduated from LSU in December, opted out of playing for LSU in the Texas Bowl to begin training for the NFL Draft.

If convicted, Lacy could be barred from participating in the NFL Scouting Combine, if a background check reveals a felony or misdemeanor involving violence, use of a weapon, or sexual assault, among other charges. Teams are still allowed to evaluate Lacy outside of the combine despite the charges.
