ESPN’s Unveils New ‘Monday Night Countdown’ Cast

Scott Van Pelt
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN is unveiling a new “Monday Night Countdown” cast in time for the new NFL season.

Scott Van Pelt, Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark are joining the long-running studio show that sets the table for the “Monday Night Football” crew of Troy Aikman, Joe Buck and Lisa Salters.

These newcomers will join Robert Griffin III, Adam Schefter and Michelle Beisner-Buck, who are returning from last season’s cast.

They’ll succeed anchor Suzy Kolber and analyst Steve Young who were laid off in June. Analyst Booger McFarland is not returning to the show – although he remains with ESPN. Laura Rutledge was also in contention to succeed Kolber. She’ll continue to lead the “NFL Live” weekday show.

Here’s the new cast for the 2023 NFL season, which looks younger and more diverse.

  • Anchor: Scott Van Pelt. The midnight “SportsCenter” anchor adds another big assignment to his portfolio. He also works ESPN’s Masters coverage.
  • Analysts: Marcus Spears, Ryan Clark, Robert Griffin III.
  • Senior Insider: Adam Schefter.
  • Features Reporter: Michelle Beisner-Buck.

Analysts Larry Fitzgerald and Alex Smith will also make multiple appearances on the revamped ‘Countdown.’

Most of the new cast will be on hand for a special edition of “Countdown” before tonight’s Baltimore Ravens vs. Washington Commanders preseason game.

The new team will make its regular season debut Week 1 before the New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

As part of the changes, Van Pelt has signed a multi-year contract extension with ESPN. The 20-year veteran will continue to host his late-night “SportsCenter” on most weeknights. Plus, anchor ESPN’s Masters and PGA Championship golf coverage.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
