ESPN’s Huge Sports Betting Ambitions

  • ESPN and Penn Entertainment have the hugely ambitious goal of holding 20% of the U.S. online sports betting market by 2027.
  • Right now, the market is dominated by DraftKings and FanDuel, which collectively hold more than 70%.

Penn Entertainment is putting all of its chips on its sports betting deal with ESPN. The gambling company is putting nearly half of its market capitalization into the deal, and the two companies have incredibly ambitious plans for their coming, rebranded sportsbook.

We also get word from Comcast, which was unhappy with comments made by David Adelman in a previous episode regarding their management of the Wells Fargo Center where the Philadelphia 76ers play. Adelman is leading the charge to build a new arena for the team in downtown Philadelphia.

Finally, we hear from Stu Halberg, CEO of Logitix, on how changes in technology and fan expectations are altering the ticketing market.
