UFC has joined the NBA as major professional sports leagues planning to stream events through Cosm, the operator of immersive dome viewing facilities set to debut next year.
Fans will be able to attend Cosm’s domes to watch live pay-per-view fights through UFC’s multi-year deal with the company. Fights will be live-streamed on 8K video screens inside the facilities, creating an immersive video display with spatial audio components, all without a fan having to wear a headset or other device.
Cosm’s first venue is currently under construction at Hollywood Park, the massive entertainment complex that includes SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles Clippers’ upcoming Intuit Dome. Cosm’s LA venue is set to open early next year, with another facility planned for Dallas. Over the next year, Cosm anticipates having 5-7 total venues.
UFC’s to-be-announced schedule of fights with Cosm will also offer food, beverage and merchandise services to help guests feel like “they are Octagon-side for the main event,” the companies said.
The NBA’s multi-year deal with Cosm was announced in February to have the company’s venues present games from NBA League Pass. Cosm, which has its own research and development facility in Utah, held NBA broadcast test events during this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City.
