With a tentative agreement in place with the city of Nashville, the Tennessee Titans have released a first look at the plans for a new state-of-the-art domed stadium set to cost up to $2.2 billion.
The renderings for the new building — to be built next to the Titans’ current home, Nissan Stadium — were designed by Kansas City-based architecture firm MANICA to inform site planning and cost estimates. MANICA has previously worked on projects such as Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and Chase Center in San Francisco.
Tennessee’s new 1.7 million-square-foot stadium will contain several features to enhance the fan experience and allow for events year-round.
A circular, high-tech ETFE translucent roof will not leave events at the mercy of weather and likely will not be retractable, as the team notes that most retractable roofs “are very lightly used and … often have costly mechanical issues.”
The new stadium will have a capacity of only around 60,000 (Nissan Stadium holds 69,143), which the team has justified by saying it wants “a building where there literally isn’t a bad seat in the house.”
The structure will also have exterior porches and terraces with panoramic views of the city.
The Titans and city are building the new stadium with the hope of hosting huge marquee events — such as Super Bowls, Final Fours, or College Football Playoffs — after it opens in 2026 or later.
Providing an injection of revenue from those events would certainly justify the project getting potentially the most public money in NFL history.
