NASCAR Will Put Fans in Driver’s Seat at Homestead

  • Viewers will be offered 360-degree control of the camera inside a race car.
  • Leagues are offering more one-of-a-kind views and interactive experiences.

Sports leagues are increasingly offering fans more unique camera angles, but this weekend, NASCAR will give an inside-out view of a driver – from all angles – for an entire race.

During Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Homestead, fans will be given 360-degree control of a special camera inside Garrett Smithley’s No. 15 car.

The unique streaming option, which can be accessed via the Drive Product at NASCAR.com and NASCAR mobile app, will provide fans with the kind of perspective previously reserved for TV directors in the production truck.

The new NASCAR camera is just the latest option as sports viewing becomes increasingly interactive.

  • NBA TV’s “Center Court” franchise will incorporate unique camera angles, next-gen analytics and social media integrations this season.
  • The USFL employed drones and mini helmet cams during game coverage on NBC Sports and Fox this season.
  • MLB offered fans an “Ump Cam” during Fox Sports’s coverage of the 2022 All-Star Game.

Delivered via Amazon Web Services, NASCAR’s fan-controlled camera angle was developed by C360, an immersive video company that also develops Pylon Cams for the NFL and college football.

“Immersive video is the future of sports technology, and C360 is proud to partner with AWS to put NASCAR fans in the driver seat for this never before seen fan-controlled experience during this Sunday’s NASCAR playoff race at Homestead,” said Carlos Silva, chief executive officer of C360.
